Navigation solution provider NNG in collaboration with the Budapest University of Technology has completed a 2-year-long EU-funded research project enabling the development of applications connected to its iGo navigation engine. Running on the Android operating system, the platform allows for additional functionalities to be added to the iGO navigation software. Demonstration modules developed by the partnering university allow for example the recognition of street signs that are added to the map on the fly or the use of voice recognition software on an associated smartphone.
The platform development project received funding from the European Union and the Hungarian state for about €1 million. At this stage NNG does not have put together a Software Development Kit yet but it is likely to come at a later stage to make life easier for third party developers.
