Garmin buys Centro GPS

Garmin has acquired Centro GPS, its Chilean distributor for automotive, outdoor recreation, fitness and marine products. Garmin which has its operational base in Olathe, plans to rename Centro as Garmin Chile. Operations will stay in their current space in Santiago, where there are about 25 employees. Garmin opened a Brazilian office in
2006. The company has a track record of vertical integration, including buying up foreign distributors. In September, Garmin
closed on the purchase of a Southern Africa distributor, Garmin Distribution Africa Ltd.
